then vs now

So the other day, this friend of mine from back in the day stopped by for a visit, with his wife and 6 year old son. We had a nice visit, talking about old times and stuff we used to do. Laughed a lot..While we were talking, the boy was in the back of his dad's pickup truck, looking at these bags of hardwood mulch. I have noticed at this time of year, lots of husbands have bags of mulch in the back of their pickup trucks..lol..Anyway, this kid was reading what was written on the bag..instructions for use, where it was made, etc....things I wouldn't have expected a 6-year-old to be able to read. But he nailed it..I was amazed at his level of reading skills..I mean, when I was 6 years old, I was still at the " see Spot run" level..I wonder if society isn't making kids grow up too fast these days..
